TIMED CONTION - ESSAY ON ETHNICITY

Ethnicity is represented through cinematography. The first shot used is a close-up of the antagonist's gun in his hand. The shot allows us clearly see his hand gestures and what exactly was happening within the shot which was that the antagonist's hand was shaking violently suggesting he wasn’t able to still connoting that he is scared. In relation to the antagonist, the protagonist is also shown with close-ups however they portray him as the dominant, strong character. This suggests that the stereotypical foreign antagonist is scared of the protagonist as he is weaker which conforms the racial stereotype.

another shot used is an extreme long shot which shot the black man dead on the floor the white woman on the chair, the foreign antagonist standing behind her and then the antagonist helper, this composition connotes how week and vulnerable each character is within the shot

  1. This is unfinished Shapali but what you have started ok but is a little confused...don't lose your structure, follow the PEE rule. Be more detailed and specific when analysing...how is ethnicity being represented if the black man has been shot dead but the white woman has been left alive? Who is more important? Racial stereotypes in TV drama signify that White British people are dominant so if the black man is dominating the screen time in long takes this is subverting expectations...keep practicing!
